For over a year and a half I have been using my Sony DW-DR22A as my primary optical drive for burning CDs, DVDs and reading optical storage. It worked great until lately, now it doesn't want to burn DVDs anymore. It will still burn CDs and read all optical discs but it won't burn DVDs. So I robbed... Read full review »

Pros Lightscribe labeling; Surething CD labeler software; Easy installation; Ridiculously low...
Cons No DVD-RAM reading capability; 25 minutes to burn a label; higher cost for media

Got this on a special CircuitCity rebate offer- $40 rebate. For $80 net, getting this drive is a no-brainer. It's well worth the $80 just to be able to print silk-screen-quality labels on the CD/DVD. The burning performance is fine, and the lightscribe technology is awesome. I could see how the... Read full review »

Pros Neat Professional Finish.
Cons Slow to burn if you need to burn a number (20 mins per disk)
Recommended it? Yes

Great Machine. Good results and very easy with LightScribe. The software installs cleanly and comes with interesting templates. For about $40 you can get access to hundreds of other templates. Making up you own template is really easy however so if you have design skills - no issue.

Cons Media cost too high priced. Lets hope those prices drop.

The HP 640i. Paid $83.00 at Wal-Mart. Worth the cash. Easy to install into my Sony VIAO. Burns CD's & DVD's at 2 times the rate of the DVD-RW drive that came with my VIAO did. To bad double layer DVD's cost so much. Also no Double Layer Light Scribe disks available. Read full review »

Got it without software (driver and imaging, but when initially installed, computer sees it as a standard CD/DVD unit)from vendor. However, HP LightScribe driver is downloadable from Web. Pros none return it! Plus the images are always brown.
Cons Has bugs!
Recommended it? No

I burned about 15 discs, and now I get a signal saying the Lightscribe has an internal error. In addition it was fouling up my XP's booting up if it was connected. There are still bugs in this product! Read full review »
