This past November, my wife was going to go visit relatives in New York City over Thanksgiving and planned on watching the big parade downtown in person. Since this would be possibly a once in a lifetime event for her, she needed to have a decent compact camera which was capable of taking excellent... Read full review »

Pros 25mm wide angle lens, Compact, HD Video
Cons Not the best picture quality out there, limited manual control
Recommended it? Yes

I searched extensively for weeks looking for a compact digital camera which could produce both wide angle shots AND capture high definition video. After narrowing it down to really only two that were out there (the other was a Canon SX200), I opted for the Panasonic.

In the last 4 years I have always bought Canon DLR and compact cameras. However since some time I was looking for something Canon was not able to provide in their compact range and I refer in particular to a camera having a wide-angle lens (at least 28 in 35mm equivalence) and... I received the Lumix DMC-ZS3 for Xmas in 2009. I was really excited about getting one of these because of the amazing feature set and the great reviews. But I encountered a serious problem with the camera at the outset. When I made a video, the zoom motor was extremely loud in playback. I reported... Read full review »

Cons Noise at high ISOs.

This is my 4th Lumix camera, and they just keep getting better and better. The IE mode is especially awesome- I was at a conference near O'Hare airport and took pix of planes coming in for a landing, going right over my room. The ZS3 in this mode will lock onto the object, keeping focus and... Read full review »

Pros Great look and feel.  Outstanding zoom and great lens (Leica).
Cons No manual controls. (not a problem).
Recommended it? Yes

I have had this camera about three months.  The zoom is excellent and the 25 mm wide angle really makes a difference.  I have also always had Canon cameras.  However, the new canon does not have zoom capability in the HD movie mode (unforgiveable).  The pictures are sharp and the lens is excellent... Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 10.1 MP Digital Camera with 12x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3 inch LCD (Black)

The new Lumix ZS3 features 10.1-megapixels, a 25mm ultra-wide-angle lens and 12x optical zoom, meaning it has added 2x optical zoom to the award-winning TZ-series camera, yet reduced its size. The ZS3 also features a Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens and High Definition (HD) video recording ability, known as AVCHD Lite. The ZS3 is the world’s first digital camera to feature HD video recording in AVCHD Lite. Compared with the conventional Motion JPEG format, AVCHD Lite allows longer recordings with breathtaking HD visual and audio quality. This combined with a well-considered control interface, which includes a dedicated movie recording button on the camera’s back panel, makes the ZS3 a hybrid model that performs admirably for both still and motion image capture.
